Buckle up, it's a LONG emotional one!

SW⟫ 207.7 | CW⟫ 159.9 |

Post Surgery Diet⟫ Liquids

Only two more subcutaneous injections to prevent blood clots and thank goodness for that. I am covered in bruises, although none that Stripes has made are anywhere near as impressive the one on my right arm from the hospital. They sting like hell and make me ache and I will be glad to see the back of them.

Last night, I had another ‘normal’ trip to the bathroom – I was thinking that I needed to take a stool softener just to be sure but felt pretty positive. Settled down to watch a movie and realised I needed to go again – and quickly. What followed – oh my goodness, this was satanic! It was up there with some of my Ozempic blow-outs and I’m still in shock. Obviously there was a lot of stuff going on following the surgery and my body is expelling all of the toxins, but I didn’t manage to fall asleep after that.

I did a lot of thinking about the stuff that was happening yesterday that had me spiralling. Part of me wants to just pretend it didn’t happen, or that I was just having an emotional day. But then I wouldn’t really be facing my feelings and I don’t want to keep going through the same thing over and over again because I refuse to face it. This is going to be long and I fully understand that a lot of people will have no interest in it – if so, no hard feelings!

I moved back to my home-town following my second divorce, at the urging of my mother and my sisters. They said they would support me, help me get back onto my feet, get the weight off and have a better quality of life. That wasn’t really what happened though. Ever since I moved away to go to university, it has pretty much always been me travelling the 200 km to visit them; staying in hotels or taking over spare bedrooms with my kids – it was just how things were, and since I loved driving, I kinda just accepted it. However, with the decline in my health – the stroke, the heart attack – as well as the issues during Book_grim’s childhood, I was hoping for more.

It was difficult for them to understand my mental health struggles – it wasn’t really something that was discussed particularly openly – and although it wasn’t quite ‘just get a grip and get on with it’, that was part of the feeling I got whenever I felt overwhelmed or needed support. Stripes ended up taking on the role of second-parent in most of the situations to do with Book_grim, and I resented the lack of help or support they offered to her. It was fine if they wouldn’t help me, but I hated how uncaring they seemed to be about her.

When I had my stroke, we were pet-sitting my mother’s dog and I was meant to be picking my mother up from the airport. Instead, my sister had to take over the remainder of the week dog-sitting and picking up my mother. My mother was pissed. None of them visited me. None of them called Stripes to see how she was coping. No offers of food, a shoulder to cry on – nothing. Same with my heart attack. There was the sense that if I would lose the weight, everything would just get better. Regardless of the fact that I was unemployed, dealing with a child with behavioural issues, an ex-husband that didn’t contribute financially, mobility issues on top of the weight – it was very much the eat less, move more. They knew it wasn’t that simple – if it was, they wouldn’t have followed a huge chunk of the diets that they and I have been on over the years.

I felt like a disappointment because not only was I unemployed, I no longer owned my own home, lived in a council property, was super morbidly obese and rapidly becoming completely disabled. My disabilities were again dismissed as ‘if I just lost some weight’ although how exactly that would have helped with vertigo, migraines, depression and anxiety I never did figure out.

They were always there when money was tight, but I hated asking because it felt like I was just reinforcing the view that I was a screw-up. It was easier to borrow money from them than ask for a hug, or just cry in front of them. Me and the girls ended up struggling through alone and I stopped talking about my problems because what was the point. They knew that I had enquired about weight loss surgery, but didn’t quite understand the hoops I had to jump through to make it happen, or how long it would take (around three years in all).

Any visits were undertaken by us – not sure why this continued to be the norm. I was the one who could least afford the petrol, the car upkeep, and yet I don’t think they visited the first council flat I got in all of the years we lived there after we initially moved in. We have been living where we are now for nearly six years, and they have probably visited three times. Putting up boundaries was difficult because the things they said or implied, the way they treated me, very much matched the inner voice that told me I was a fuck-up, so why would I argue with them about it? I remember one time I stood my ground – we were meant to be planning a big family trip and we went to my sister’s house. I was tired, in pain and just wanted to get the organising out of the way, but everyone was having too much fun for serious conversation. I explained how I was feeling and that if they didn’t want to get to the organising bit, I’d just go home. They continued messing about so I left. It was never really brought up again, apart from me ‘getting over my little tantrum’.

Nearly every time I visited my mother over the last few months, she will put on ‘1000 lbs sisters’ or things of that ilk. I think she has always found obese people to be disgusting and watched almost out of a sense of horror. The most praise I ever received from my mother was when I was following a liquid diet and lost nearly 100 lbs. Her most cherished memory is me picking her up from the train station and not recognising me because I had lost so much weight. I know this because I have been told it many, many times. When Stripes was diagnosed with an eating disorder, I tried to protect her in ways that I never tried to protect myself. I asked them not to push food on her, make comments on her size (or lack of), just try to be more sensitive. Every invitation we received from them was to meet for lunch or dinner. Forget the fact that financially we couldn’t afford to eat out the way that they could, it felt really insensitive to keep making everything about food. Also odd to on the one hand nag someone to do something about their weight and on the other hand to be shoving chocolates, biscuits, high calories foods, etc in their face every time they visited.

When I asked if we could do something other than eat, there was a chorus of absolutely. What it actually meant was that we stopped being invited anywhere. Anytime we visit them, comments are made along the lines of ‘well I know there’s no point offering you anything to eat’ or ‘there’s food there if you want it’ to me. So, yeah, not great.

When I began using Ozempic, they still didn’t understand. That was something celebrities used, not normal people. Why couldn’t I do it the ‘normal’ way – again, eat less, move more. They struggled to understand that if the government was prepared to agree that I was disabled enough to qualify for financial assistance, that maybe I wasn’t just being lazy and that I actually do struggle with physical and mental disabilities. I know they thought Ozempic was going to be a flash in the pan. I sometimes mentioned how I was doing, but since I only really spoke to them over WhatsApp or telephone, it wasn’t in their faces.

When I got the surgery date, it all became very real. As I say, visiting meant watching My 600 lb Life and programmes like that. Constant comments about people ‘like that’ as if she weren’t making it clear that she thought of me the same way. I celebrated losing over 100lbs and they barely mentioned it – my friend who I haven’t physically seen in over a decade sent me a gift of £100 to celebrate with. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t expecting them to throw me a party but – well, it might have been nice to get more than a reaction emoji on the WhatsApp message.

Since the surgery, my mother has amped up her comments – constantly going on about me ‘not cheating’ or acting stupid like those women on the TV. Most of the time, I ignore it but since Sunday, I’ve been slowly feeling some type of way. I mentioned that I was thinking about getting a car and Vee was discussing making sure it was clean air compliant to make sure that it didn’t end up costing me unnecessarily. Mother said “Concentrate on getting better, your car will come later when you are not restricted”. Not restricted, like – what does needing a wheelchair to get around mean other than being restricted? Again, the idea seems to be that losing the weight will mean that suddenly I won’t be disabled and will suddenly regain some value? Whatever.

Was chatting with Vee about various cars, motability, leasing. Mother says ‘I see you’re still going on about your car. Good that you won’t be seeing anyone until January next year. They really will be looking for you to lose a good amount of weight – I will keep my fingers crossed that you do.”

I was actually quite gentle in my response, explained that no, there were no weight loss goals for the first meeting in January and that came directly from my dietetic nurse. I also explained that the January next year is literally a few weeks away whilst she made it sound like months!

Her reply? Of course it’s weeks but you could lose about two stone – that’s only twenty eight pounds.

My medical team are not putting goals on me, are pleased with my progress, but she’s already decided that I need to be pushing harder. So I replied that I wasn’t sure what that had to do with me looking for a car and that, yes, I know I could potentially lose by then but that I’m just going to follow the rules that they have given me to follow and do what they say. The weight will come off, the same as it did with the Ozempic and that I certainly didn’t go through all of this not to do what they say. I got a snippy response about my point being taken but that she doesn’t want me to behave like those sisters on Discovery+. I did lose my cool a little here and said something along the lines of ‘I got that from the umpteen times you’ve told me’, emphasised that this is a marathon not a sprint, and that I am taking this seriously. I also expressed that the car is a bid for more independence as well as hopefully saving money on Ubers and that I wasn’t leaping into anything. She hasn’t responded to me since then.

I started spiralling from there – it brought back so much resentment that I have obviously been suppressing for quite some time. I spoke to Jay about it and she said it seemed like my mother was acting weird as she would have expected her to be my biggest cheerleader.

One of my first thoughts when she said that was remembering my nephew telling me over a chat on Instagram that he had spoken to my mother about visiting me the next time he was in town but she told him I didn’t like visitors. Like, what? And then I made the mistake of writing down this: ”I don't know if me doing this - especially since it was Ozempic, not something she knows anything about, maybe she feels insecure in her place? Like I've been super morbidly obese for nearly 20 years at this point - what if she wants/needs to keep me in my box? I feel so fucking horrid saying that” because I found my brain just went into overload. Looking back, a lot of it has to do with not sleeping – obviously on top of the surgery, my feelings are very close to the surface. But like – maybe I’m not that far off? Like, the status quo is changing. I might not be able to get a job (currently), but losing the weight will make a huge change in my health. And getting a car enables me to do more because I won’t have to worry about the cost of Ubers, etc.

So do they just want me to stay in my box so that they don’t need to look at their own lives? Am I being arrogant in thinking that me doing this is making them reassess where they are? That maybe I’m not a complete failure or waste of space, and that I hold value just by being myself. That I don’t need to make myself small to fit into whatever space they want to cramp me into.

Of course, all of this could be avoided if I just broke all contact but at this point in time, I don’t see that happening. As it is, I only speak to her once a week; visiting no longer happens; and she only really knows the stuff about my life that I share. So an information diet unless specifically asked means that (hopefully) I can take the time to figure out my feelings, grow a shiny new spine and start living the way that I want to live. Stop trying to convince them that I’m not swinging the lead about being disabled, that I’m not just a fat, lazy waste of space and just consider that their thoughts about me are none of my business. All I can do is try my best – if that’s not good enough for them, that’s for them to deal with.

I wish I hadn’t had my meltdown yesterday but I feel so much better for getting all of this out of my head. It certainly doesn’t mean anything is fixed but it does mean it’s not festering inside me, feeding the negative thoughts I get, causing me anxiety. I can put this away (for now) and move on with meeting my protein goals and getting along with the plan agreed with my medical team. I don’t need armchair physicians who have no idea what they’re talking about.

I’m not being a dick. Jay told me that. Sare told me that. I am merely protecting my peace. If me talking about getting a car is triggering for her, then I shall just stop talking about it. If she doesn’t think I’m working hard enough on my weight loss goals after losing over 100 lbs in a year, that’s not my problem. Having poured all of that out, it feels like something I’d read on AITA on Reddit!

Today is my writing day and this is going to have to count as my writing because it’s about 3000 words long! I’ve made some banners and set up a book review as well. I think I’m going to snuggle down with my book and enjoy a peaceful day waiting for my support pillow to turn up!

Pre-Op Diet Day 25 and one step at a time

SW⟫ 207.7 | CW⟫ 164.2 |

Pre-op Diet⟫ Day 25

Surgery Countdown⟫ 03 days

Today we went and visited my Marmee. It was actually a pretty peaceful visit – she insisted on sharing episodes of 1,000 lb Sisters with us, which I’m not sure if it was meant to be encouragement or what!! I crashed out for a while, so she was chatting to the girls for a while about cars, etc. All in all, it was a peaceful visit and I’m glad I went – I just feel exhausted.

Some of it is that this originally felt a long way away – seeing Marmee made it suddenly really clear that the days are disappearing and the surgery is becoming more and more real.

The laptop is playing silly buggers (not this one) so we haven’t been able to see the ‘From’ finale as yet, which is a pain in the butt as there are spoilers all over Reddit and I’m struggling to avoid them.

Still got a bubbly tummy and the scales are not happy – another slight uptick. Tomorrow is bloods and I can’t remember if they weigh me or not. If they do, then I obviously haven’t reached the goal they set for me. I don’t know if it means that they’ll delay the operation or not. That’s stressing me out more than a little because I have tried so hard to do what was asked of me. It’s not like I was sat, munching on snickers and popcorn. I’m a little disheartened.

I need to write my list of clothing I’m taking on Thursday (assuming it goes ahead) and pack the suitcase but I think we’ll wait until after the appointment tomorrow. We do need to grab the paperwork out of the Bariatric Bible Folder (it contains all of the booklets, forms, etc that we’ve been given) and make sure we hand in the right thing. Maybe we should just take the whole thing? And maybe I’m just panicking a little.

Book_grim is making me some nails. Stripes used to do them for me and I would glue them on, but I stopped because my nail beds were suffering and (I think) I started doing polygel nails for myself. That really messed up my nail beds! But somehow, Book_grim has got hold of some nail stickers that keep the nails on even when she’s working bar, so they should cope with me going to the hospital. Hopefully. And she says as long as I put a base coat on, it shouldn’t mess with my nail beds, so win-win.

I did finish my beret in time to wear it today – Stripes even made me the cutest little pom-pom but I didn’t actually sew that to the beret. I wore the cream wool dress from months ago, but even I can admit that it was a little big. Only a little from my perspective but I think Marmee and Stripes might have a different view.

I’ve had two shakes so far and will have my third one when it’s time to feed the cats and settle down to watch TV. I can’t say I’m finding this fully liquid thing easy, but at least I’m not crying at the sight of food. Just. Shit, this is all just going so so fast and yet, slow at the same time. Like I know I still have time to fuck things up and I desperately don’t want to but I’m scared. Scared of absolutely everything. I guess I should be concentrating on what’s directly in front of me, which today is drinking my shakes, getting some sleep and being ready to go for bloods tomorrow.

One step at a time.

Pre-Op Diet Day 10 and End of Ozempic

SW ⟫ 207.7 | CW ⟫ 165.2 |

Ozempic: ⟫ 1 mg | Pre-op Diet:⟫ Day 10

After chatting with Stripes, I made the decision to stop taking Ozempic. I was meant to be having one more jab before stopping before the operation, but with how upset my stomach has been there seems little point in adding more stress to it by doing one last jab. I think tomorrow I will try to do a summary of my journey using it since January, but I can only express how grateful I am that I found it and it worked for me the way it has worked for so many. If I need to return to it after surgery, so be it, but in the meantime it has more than served its’ purpose.

Each time I have a shake, give it between 10 -20 minutes and I’m having a toilet incident and it has got to stop. Yesterday, I once again only managed to drink three shakes which means I’m averaging around 600 cals a day which is not good. One of the slides on the presentation yesterday showed that 600 cals can lead to ill health which might jeopardise the surgery so I need to make a concerted effort to get that fourth shake in. I might email the dietetic team to ask for any tips.

Spent the morning with Stripes before she went out to meet her Dad’s side of the family for lunch and I spent a chunk of time with Gidget. Then Oldest came back with Stripes and we had a couple of photos taken together and I chatted to her to make sure she’s okay with the whole surgery thing. Before he left, I spoke to the ex and asked him to keep an eye out for Stripes, that she’s so used to being the rock that she wasn’t great at leaning on people and he needed to be there for her. Then I told him he was a cracking dad, always had been. He said some reassuring things – very male logic reassuring things – but I feel like I did the right thing and can rest easy with that.

So, we’re watching the end of Venom as Gidget didn’t get to see it before she goes to work and we settle in for a quiet night. I’ve had two shakes today and no toilet incidences so maybe that’s sorted? Not enough for me to risk the Slimfast shakes just yet but it’s been nice. Okay, I still have a bubbly butt that stinks but I can cope with that. I have a review to write and then back to reading and chilling I think.

Telling the world but not my family..

SW ⟫ 207.7 | CW ⟫ 169.8 |

Ozempic: ⟫ 1 mg

Hmm, I’m in a bit of a weird head-space.

I found out yesterday that my mother told one of my sisters about the surgery. Now, that shouldn’t be a big deal but I wasn’t planning on telling family (as in those who live outside the area and I don’t see from year to year) until much closer to the date. Not sure why – I’m not ashamed of having the surgery, but I guess I just wanted to keep it to myself? Which sounds absolutely bizarre when I’ve put it up onto the internet for all to see/find if they so choose, but I guess that’s what it’s about – me choosing who finds out or is told. The thing is, once you tell one person, the rest is out of your control and this shouldn’t be a big deal but it kinda is.

My family is a little strange, well at least I think so. We don’t meet up very often – it tends to be for big birthdays for the matriarch more than anything. However, like many families, there is a lot of gossip. I know stuff about siblings that I’m pretty sure they never wanted me to know. But the difference is, I don’t say anything to them about it – I might know but that doesn’t mean I feel free to discuss it openly. And now I’m wondering who else has been told and what they’re saying about me. Which isn’t my business – what other people think of me and what I’m doing is none of my business as long as they don’t get all up in my business.

Not sure I’m making a lot of sense.

I don’t think there’s any point in saying anything to my Mother about it. I know she won’t have done it maliciously but I can’t help but feel hurt. Like, I talked to her about my fears about leaving the girls behind, all of the things that could potentially go wrong with the surgery. We talked about my failed marriages, my return to my home city – or rather, she talked and I listened and tried to understand what was behind it all. My mother is not very emotional – she loves me and I know it; she’s proud of me and I know it; if I ever need money I know she would find a way to help me, no question. But she’s not emotional – not normally.

But she cried. And I don’t know how to help her feel better about everything. I know she looks at my life and wonders what went wrong – what happened. I used to be a go-getter (her words) and ever since I returned to my home city, she feels that I’ve basically buried myself alive in my house. I don’t visit people, I don’t go out, I call once a week to chat but don’t tell her much about myself.

The thing is, I know she hates my life. She hates what being fat has done to me; she doesn’t understand the mental health issues I have and struggles because for her generation, it was just kinda stiff upper lip and deal with things. And chronic illness with no definitive diagnosis makes things worse – she’s fighting against the desire to say just snap out of it. But I know that’s part of what is going through her mind. She’s watched me lose and regain hundreds of pounds over the years and to a large extent, can’t understand why I can’t just stick with a diet and lose the weight. She knows what the media says about Ozempic and the like; kinda understands that for some people it’s not as simple as eat less and exercise more, but she also can’t help holding on to that mentality because that’s what she knows. She’s had her own struggles with weight loss and succeeded on Weight Watchers, but is also currently struggling to keep her weight down.

Maybe it’s as simple as wanting to let people know my own way, in my own time. I’ve been thinking about it since I found out and have called myself a snowflake, a wuss, over-sensitive. But I don’t think I am actually any of those things – I think I just wanted agency over my own story. I’m not going to reach a point of happiness about this because I keep wondering who else knows, who else is judging me, who else is going to be watching to see if I fail – all of those people who have done and said nothing over the years whilst I’ve struggled with weight, loss, all of it. God this is all such a mind-fuck!

Normalcy – went to hospital today for pre-op blood tests, blood pressure, etc.. Was actually really peaceful – not a lot of people on the roads so early in the morning and we were seen pretty much immediately. In fact, we were done and outside again twenty minutes after our appointment time so all good. The best thing? Their scales show the same as mine – if I leaned too far to the right, it showed 170kg but leaning to the left turned it to 169.8kg so that’s what we went with! So I’m officially in the 160s which is nice.

Jab day and it was painful I – I’m not sure why but I really felt it today and was not impressed. Maybe I need to use a different site than my arm?

So, to end on a positive note, I have a couple of NSV – getting in and out of the Uber was easier and doing up the seatbelts in the backseat wasn’t a big deal.

I think I’m gonna try to get some sleep and put all of this out of my head!

No Weighing and Celebrating 75 lbs off

SW ⟫ 207.7 | CW ⟫ ?? |

Ozempic: ⟫ 1 mg

In the first time in I couldn’t tell you how long, I have no idea what I weigh. The last couple of days, I haven’t weighed myself. And I can’t quite figure out why. I either ‘forgot’ when I got up in the morning, or like this morning I didn’t have time. Maybe it’s because I am definitely over COVID and I feel like the numbers are going to begin to bounce back up because I’m able to eat again.

I had my hair done – single long blonde braids. It only took Tanya about 2 hours to do my whole head and I love the concept of it. I don’t like it on me – but then, I never do like my hair when it’s been done. Actually, I can’t think of the last time I just liked my hair. I haven’t wanted to buy any more clothes because I don’t go anywhere, and I felt like not celebrating the achievement was me trying to downplay what I achieved. I think Marmee liked the photo I took to send to show her me with hair (obsessed with the length of my hair even now I’m 54).

Anyway, Stripes sister and father came up to celebrate her birthday with her, and after they took her for lunch, I got to have some time with Lophy. We talked, played with make up and hugged a lot and it was really lovely. She said she could see a difference in my face and reminded me that it’s a marathon, not a sprint when I whined a little. Hopefully, the picture I took of the two of us together will work – if so, it’s here.

I’m tired as all heck after ‘peopling’ with Tanya, but the Ginger from Hinge wasn’t able to come around today because he wasn’t feeling well, so once Lophy and K left, we just chilled out. Tomorrow and Monday should be chill-days because I need to rest up until Tuesday as I can see it being quite a ‘high spoon count’ day. It’s nearly 5 am and I wanted to make the award banners for the 1 million words Word Wars challenge I set up as well as listen to ‘Frog’ by Mary Calmes on audio-book to try to relax.

We’ve pretty much decided that if JC is going to continue to act the way he is, we need to talk to the police. We might not be able to get a TRO or anything like that, but we can ask them to document it in case he escalates. I’m not looking forward to it, but I do think it needs to happen – if only for Gidget’s peace of mind.

I’m all done so going to settle down with Dmi and see if I can get some sleep. I think Gidget should be home by 6 a.m. – I know JC was there again tonight but at the moment, he hasn’t done anything to her and I can only hope and pray that it remains that way.

As for the scales – I took my jab today so maybe weighing in can wait until Monday. Unless I wake up tomorrow and decide to torture myself!

Endo Appt and Head Thoughts

SW ⟫ 207.7 | CW ⟫ 173.3 |

Ozempic: ⟫ 1 mg

Today was my endocrinology appointment (telephone call) and it was short and sweet. Violet doesn’t have my latest A1C results and was less than impressed that I don’t have a date for surgery. As expected, she’s going to do some chasing with the coordinators to find out why I haven’t heard anything, was very pleased with my weight loss and admitted that there was very little she could actually do for me that I wasn’t already achieving alone.

It was kinda bittersweet to be honest. As I’ve said before, this is quite a lonely journey and having someone call on me regularly to check in means a lot – more than I perhaps realised. Again, I’m in a bit of a limbo land with regards to the surgery but to be fair, I don’t think I’m in the right position to know what I want to do about it. The current lot of weight loss is most likely to do with COVID – I haven’t been interested in eating or drinking anything which is obviously going to have an effect on the scales. I’m more than a little afraid of what happens when my ‘normal’ Ozempic appetite returns – will I see the scales bounce back up?

I don’t think that I truly appreciate the weight loss that I have achieved – 75 lbs is pretty darn impressive. I sometimes feel like I don’t celebrate enough when I reach these milestones? Like, my first thought upon realising that I had lost 75 lbs was that 100 lbs still feels a long way away. I didn’t even give myself a second to be like, yeah whoo, it was almost immediately how far away the next mini goal was and how long it had taken me to get to where I am. In some ways, that’s good – to be conscious that I still have a ways to go, that I need to keep doing what I’m doing. But on the other hand, am I going to get burnt out if I don’t at least acknowledge when I’ve done something good? It’s a marathon not a sprint – the scales are going to go up sometimes instead of going down, life is going to throw things in my way. Perhaps I should try to celebrate a little more instead of just head down, on to the next. What do other people do? Do they lose focus if they celebrate? Maybe that’s my internal fear – that if I ever stop to actually consider what’s happening, I’ll lose focus, chicken out, lose the plot! I don’t know!

I was having a WhatsApp conversation with Sandy and admitted something that has been preying on my mind. I wanted to visit when she came down (COVID made that impossible) but I also have to admit that there was a part of me that didn’t want to see her. I can’t remember how much I weighed the last time we saw each other, but there was a part of me that felt Marmee had built up my weight loss so much that – what if when Sandy saw me, she couldn’t see any difference because of how big when I saw her last time? But what happens if she did notice and celebrated my achievements? Would that set me off-kilter? I know in the past that when people have complimented me on my loss, I have lost focus – became almost complacent because people said I looked better that I forgot about the destination I ultimately have in mind. I don’t want that to happen. I want to be seen but I want to be invisible; I want people to notice but I don’t want them to realise that I have lost weight; I want to be celebrated but I don’t want people to celebrate there being less of me. I don’t know – I’ve read a few things on Reddit and the like where people are struggling with similar things. Like, what did people think they looked like before if they are so impressed with the loss? Why does losing weight mean that people treat you better? Why does it feel like you’re carrying the weight of all of these expectations when you tell people you’re trying to lose weight?

I know sometimes Marmee has said stuff – like being a little disappointed when I say how much I have lost in a period of time. She doesn’t mean to be negative but there is an expectation that if you’re using things like Ozempic the weight is going to fly off, which means hearing that someone has lost a couple of pounds doesn’t seem good enough? Not that I’m not good enough (that’s a whole different post), but that somehow my results that week aren’t good enough, that they should be better because otherwise why am I using Ozempic? It makes it harder because I have to manage my own expectations. I think my loss averages out at around 8 – 9 lbs per month which is GOOD. Would I like it to be more? Well of course I would. But I also know that that’s not sustainable – it took years to put this weight on so it’s not just gonna fall off, no matter how much I would want it to.

Maybe it’s time to see if I have any photos of me from a year ago and do a comparison. Wow, just the thought of that sent a cold shiver down my spine – maybe I’m not mentally ready to try that just yet!

Sabotage of the Self Variety

Ozempic ⟫ 0.5 mg

And into territory that I am well acquainted by – the land of self sabotage. I don’t know if it’s because of the way I took less for two weeks or what, but I haven’t been feeling the effects of the Ozempic anywhere near as strongly. Maybe it needs to build up in my system again or something? Whatever, but simply because I don’t have the galloping trots, the desire to throw up almost constantly or the feeling like there is a boulder sitting on my chest whenever I try to eat something, I haven’t been finding it as difficult to eat/overeat. The food noise is back and apparently, I have fallen right back into the hell that is constantly being hungry and thinking about food.

Not helped by me falling for the ridiculous marketing technique of “buy four for £10” that is Easter eggs from Asda. I don’t even have the excuse of people to buy eggs for – everyone is old enough to buy their own, so why the heck I threw four giant Easter eggs into the shopping basket, I really don’t know. Worse, I’ve already eaten one of them.

Stripes said something to me the other day that has been ricocheting around my empty head – about how I use food to punish myself. Whether it’s eating things that I know are going to make me feel sick, or upset my stomach – when I’m feeling down on myself or a little lost, I tend to eat my emotions and not always in a ‘chow down on everything’ mode. Rather, deciding to have chicken wings even though ever since I started Trulicity, chicken has made me throw up quite violently. Or chocolate, which even before the semaglutide was something that would make going to the bathroom a pretty awful experience.

I visited my Marmee on Sunday for perhaps the first time in six months. She’s been away on holiday and I wanted to take round her Mother’s Day present personally. I wore the bright pink dress I ordered from Simply Be, as well as the shining new white trainers; Stripes did my eyebrows and I felt GOOD - well, as long as I didn’t look at any pictures or mirrors. My Marmee is blunt – if she tells you that you look good, then she’s not bullshitting. Obviously that has another side to it – if she thinks you need to hear the ugly truth about something, she’ll tell you.

She was so happy to see both me and Stripes (and Grim turned up once she’d awoken), so she was pretty much dancing in her seat at having all of us visit her. And she called me to tell me to keep up the good work and that I looked good. I was practically wagging my tail in joy. It is one of the weirdness things of weight loss whereby you want people to notice that you’ve lost weight, compliment you on it, and yet you don’t want people to say anything because – well, it’s about your weight and that is a lava-hot topic for most people.

But then my head got involved and I found myself thinking. What if my Marmee is only saying I look good/like I’ve lost weight because I’ve told her that I’ve been losing weight? And what did she think of how I looked before? And – well, generally imagine a gigantic pot-hole in the middle of the street you’re walking down with neon lights telling you that it’s there and you need to avoid it and thinking, hmm, I wonder what’s down there before jumping in with both feet and then bemoaning the fact that you appear to have fallen? So yeah, my head is still not a healthy place and I find myself doubting everything. Add to which, the scales are not moving (not up or down) and you can imagine what’s been going on in my head. What if it’s stopped working? What if I need the side effects – the explosive bathroom visits, the vomiting, etc in order to lose weight?

Fortunately for me, the wool I ordered has arrived and instead of keeping my hands busy with food, I can crochet the blanket for the great-nibling that is due in October. And I think I need to do a bit more work on that Mantra stuff because my goodness, my head is just such a fucked up place.
